EDICIÓN — ALÍTA

Born and raised in Yuma, Arizona, in 1994, Antonio De Jesus Padilla gathers fragments of childhood, family, and landscape into acts of nourishment. His work begins with the stories carried by smoke—the meals prepared by his mother, the hands of his grandmother in the kitchen, and the quiet rituals that transformed ordinary days into something sacred.

Rooted in the Sonoran Desert, Padilla cooks with a deep awareness of place. Flame becomes both medium and language, revealing flavors shaped by time, labor, and inheritance. Through food, he explores how memory lives within the body: how a scent can return us to a forgotten afternoon, how a taste can summon a person no longer present, and how a meal can become an archive of love.

Alíta is an offering to these moments. Each dish emerges from recollection and longing—a childhood snack, a family gathering, a soccer field, the scent of smoke drifting from a backyard fire. Through these experiences, Padilla invites diners to reflect on their own histories, demonstrating how taste and aroma can unlock memory and create connection.

For Padilla, cooking is not simply the preparation of food—it is a gesture of devotion: a way of honoring those who taught him, celebrating the culture that formed him, and creating new memories around the table.
